I will say these last few weeks have been very trying. But also rewarding. I've had the opportunity to make friends, be social, have coffee alone! It's like I finally got the vacation from momhood I've been craving for years. I feel human again. I see my kids in the morning and the evening after I pick them up from daycare, so I finally have some time to focus on me.
Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but I think the punishment of homemaking is cruel. No one should be forced to spend their days in the company of their children. Why do you think the saying goes "it take s a village to raise a child"? Because somewhere along the lines humans had it right and worked in groups to raise kids so women who were forced to carry them for 9 months and ruin their bodies could have a break. Ask any stay-at-home mom if she absolutely loves it 100% of the time, and you will get a NO every time.
The truth is, I was never meant for that life. I don't have the personality for it. I crazy work. I crave responsibility. I crave recognition. And thats just not something I get wiping butts and scrubbing floors, and shopping for bread and washing dishes. And I don't like the burden of being the "soul of the home" either. I need to get out every once in a while. Nick has all sorts of opportunities. I mean for heaven's sake he is in Panama for 3 and a half months! No one bats an eye at a man leaving his family for work. No one should bat an eye at a woman doing the same thing. No, I'm not going on a long winded research trip anytime soon, but I take comfort in knowing I'm a better mom when I have time away.
And if I ever feel guilty, I just watch Bad Moms and feel all better :)
